Most Liberal
President Bush, in the second national debate:
First, the National Journal named Senator Kennedy the most liberal senator of all. And that’s saying something in that bunch. You might say that took a lot of hard work.
He meant Senator Kerry, of course, but the reason I quote this is simply to ask: how the hell is this a bad thing? Bush’s intent was plainly that his audience should recoil in horror at such a slur, and that all normal Americans should do the same. Liberal? Why, sir, you might as well have called me a communist.
